Tempest Summary

The "Tempest" considered William Shakespeare's last play. This play begins with a shipwreck caused by a storm raised by Prospero, the legal heir to Milan. He and his daughter Miranda are exiled to an island for twelve years. Prospero's brother Antonio becomes jealous and banishes him. Prospero and his daughter are given some food and put out to sea in a boat. Prospero somehow survives with the help of magic and takes refuge on an island. Where he makes Caliban his slave. Later one day, Antonio and his son Ferdinand were passing near the island on the sea. Prospero uses magic to destroy their ship and bring them to the island. Later, Ferdinand and Miranda fall in love and Prospero forgives Antonio. The keynote of the Tempest is forgiveness and freedom.
